DALTON POINTS

DALTON POINTS. Located in cases 1 and 5 of the Union Museum of History and Art.

Period: Early Archaic: 10,000 – 9,200 BP.


Distribution: Eastern Oklahoma, northeast Texas, eastward to the Tennessee Valley and the southern Ohio River Valley.


Dalton points: Medium to large sized point with a “fish tailed” base. Blade is triangular and bases are thinned with some points being fluted. Regional variations exist and influenced other types of points.


The points on exhibit in the Museum were discovered in Union and Lincoln Parishes in North Louisiana. Some points on exhibit came from Missouri and Illinois.

Much research into the Gary point was performed by Ford and Webb who were renowned for their early work at Poverty Point.
